Lose the Laundry room Clutter! Part 1

This week I am going to focus on the Laundry room.  It is so much easier to wash and dry clothes when you don't have to shift around clutter to manuever yourself around the room.  My laundry room is in the passthrough to the garage.  I have tried to decorate it to make it more pleasing.  However, it seems to be a good place to collect things I don't need.  I find that I throw a lot of things in here that I don't have a place for.  In fact it is more of a storage room than a laundry room.  Once something finds its way in here it never leaves!



The problems:

1. I keep the door closed so I really don't look in the room very much, so I don't "see" the mess unless I go in there!
2. The counter is covered with stuff so it is basically unusable. 
3. There is no where to hang clothes.  I have hooks on the doors and they are always full of clothes.
4. It's a small space.
5. I have some storage containers that are not working for their purpose.  I have tried to have a mail center there with no success.  I will have to decide if I want to move it or repurpose the storage containers.  
6. I empty my pockets prior to washing clothes and I have no place for the contents.
7. I store tools and painting supplies in here and I don't always put them away properly.
8. There is no place to fold clothes.

The good news:

1. I can close the door when I wash clothes so I don't hear the washer.
2. There is a counter in the room.
3. The room is already decorated.
4. There are a lot of cabinets.

Ideas:

1. Install a hanging clothes rack or pull out drying line.
2. Install some under cabinet lighting to brighten the space.
3. Repurpose the storage containers.
4. Possibly, install a folding table ( or maybe use the counter top)
5. De-clutter the cabinets and counter top.
6. Install shelving over my dryer for storage.

I am going to tackle this space and you are welcome to follow the journey.  I am going to begin with the cabinets.  Then the counter and finally the floor.  I am considering repainting it, but truthfully I still like the way it is decorated!  I just can't see it anymore because of all the junk and clutter!  After I  clear the space  I will decide if it needs to be redecorated.  Maybe I can just find a way to refresh it!
